Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced dual-licensed Massage Therapist and Aesthetician to join our team. This role blends therapeutic bodywork with advanced skincare to provide a holistic wellness experience in a luxury spa setting.
As the Head/Principal Therapist, you will deliver expert treatments to guests, VIPs, and media representatives, ensuring the highest standards of care, hygiene, and professionalism. Beyond treatments, you will oversee training, onboarding, and education for team members, manage product inventories, coordinate therapist schedules, and drive retail and service revenue.
Working closely with the Spa Manager/Director, you will uphold operational excellence, service standards, and a culture of professionalism, ensuring an exceptional guest experience at every touchpoint.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Retail & Revenue Responsibility
• Achieve and exceed retail sales targets set by the Spa Director.
• Provide personalized aftercare recommendations at the end of each treatment, addressing guest concerns and offering products for purchase.
• Promote guest retention by suggesting ongoing treatment programs and cross-selling spa services. Maintain a thorough knowledge of treatments, packages, and promotions.
• Participate in spa demonstrations, promotional events, and special activations.
• Accurately record and track sales.
• Assist the Spa Manager/Director in monitoring therapist targets, offering motivation and additional training as needed.
VIP & Special Client Care
• Perform treatments for VIPs, journalists, and special guests, maintaining the highest standard of excellence.
• Represent the spa as an ambassador during VIP treatments, promoting spa services, designated product lines, and the resort.
Operational Support & Leadership
• Assist in scheduling, stock control, inventory management, and order placements.
• Ensure the cleanliness, sterilization, and hygiene of all treatment areas, equipment, and linens in accordance with spa protocols.
• Lead by example, setting the standard for professionalism, work ethic, and service excellence.
• Motivate and support therapists, providing feedback to the Manager/Director on team morale and performance.
Guest Experience & Personalization
• Enhance the guest experience with thoughtful, memorable touches that elevate service to a five-star standard.
• Conduct thorough consultations before treatments, addressing medical history, concerns, and preferences.
• Maintain a discreet and professional presence in treatment rooms and corridors to preserve the guest’s relaxation.
• Ensure confidentiality at all times, protecting personal data, medical details, and client interactions.
• Update guest profiles with relevant preferences to ensure seamless service across visits.
• Address and report guest complaints to the Duty Manager for swift resolution.
Treatment Execution & Professional Development
• Perform all treatments to the highest professional standards, following established protocols while personalizing services for each guest.
• Continuously expand product knowledge and refine treatment techniques beyond formal training sessions.
• Use products in accordance with manufacturer guidelines to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
• Stay informed on industry updates, participating in training programs and skill development courses as required by Kerzner International.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
• Ensure treatment rooms are fully stocked, organized, and pristine, meeting spa quality standards.
• Follow opening and closing procedures, reporting any maintenance concerns to the Duty Manager.
• Conduct daily checks on cleanliness, hygiene, room setup, stock levels, and equipment functionality.
• Take responsibility for the upkeep of all tools, equipment, and treatment areas, maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Attend mandatory training sessions on health and safety regulations, hygiene protocols, and industry standards.
• Actively contribute to a safe workplace, ensuring the well-being of colleagues and guests.
• Support spa attendants and receptionists in maintaining cleanliness throughout spa facilities as needed.
Team Collaboration & Adaptability
• Support all spa departments, assisting with Reception and Spa Attendant duties when required.
• Manage training schedules, coordinate vendor-led workshops, oversee inventories, and provide coaching to team members.
• Embrace a flexible and adaptable approach to a dynamic and evolving work environment.
• Be adaptable with scheduling as we establish our operations; during slower periods, you may assist with guest engagement through complimentary mini facials, hand treatments, tours, and other interactive experiences.
• Always arrive on time, prepared, and in compliance with the Spa Director’s grooming and hygiene standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management to contribute to the success of the spa.
Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements
- Proficient in both written and spoken English; fluency in additional languages is a valuable asset.
- Completed 500 hours of massage training at a state-approved institution, holding a valid state-issued license or its transferred equivalent, and/or 650 hours of aesthetician training at a state-approved school with a valid state-issued or transferred license.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in the massage therapy and aesthetics fields.
- In-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Expertise in using a wide range of massage and aesthetic tools and equipment.
- Skilled in various massage techniques, including relaxation, deep tissue (up to 5-hour’s in a row), sports massage, hot/Himalayan stone massage, prenatal, reflexology, aromatherapy, couples massage, cupping, body scrubs, and body wraps; and/or knowledgeable in aesthetic treatments such as Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels, LED Light Therapy, Hydra Dermabrasion, Ultrasonic Therapy, Radiofrequency, High-Frequency, Cold Therapy, Oxygen Therapy, and Dermaplaning.
- Proven experience working in luxury, five-star resorts or spas for at least three years.
- Extensive understanding of massage therapies and a wide range of face and body treatments.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Positive, proactive attitude dedicated to delivering exceptional guest experiences.
- Skilled in addressing guest concerns professionally and effectively.
- Strong leadership abilities, including experience in training, mentoring, and guiding fellow therapists.
- Proficient in using standard office equipment.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Capable of managing proforma schedules, coordinating vendor training, maintaining inventories, and coaching team members when necessary.
