Job Summary

The Group Fitness Instructor/Trainer is responsible for leading dynamic fitness classes and providing one-on-one training sessions to individuals. This role involves designing and delivering engaging, safe, and effective group workouts, while also tailoring personalized fitness programs to meet the specific goals and needs of clients. The instructor and trainer must possess a strong understanding of fitness principles, including proper exercise techniques, injury prevention, and overall wellness. They will foster a motivating and inclusive environment, inspiring participants to achieve their fitness goals, improve their strength, endurance, and flexibility. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for guiding clients through workouts, providing feedback, and creating a positive, energetic atmosphere. Flexibility to adapt to varying class formats and individual needs is crucial to ensure optimal results for all participants.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to shift start, dressed in the issued uniform, and groomed per resort standards
  • Design and implement customized exercise programs tailored to guests' needs and goals, monitoring progress regularly
  • Maintain a proactive presence in fitness areas, providing guidance, support, and professional assistance to all users
  • Actively promote personal training sessions, retail products, and fitness packages offered by the Fitness Center
  • Deliver exceptional, personalized service, ensuring an outstanding guest experience at all times
  • Adapt communication and teaching styles to meet individual client needs and preferences
  • Integrate education and motivation into planned exercise programs and supervise their execution
  • Clearly communicate and ensure the safety principles of training programs
  • Ensure the cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of all fitness areas and equipment, including the studio. Replenish gym amenities (fruits, water, towels) promptly
  • Welcome guests at the spa reception, providing accurate information about spa and fitness services, products, and pricing
  • Conduct fitness classes and other activities offered by the Spa & Fitness Center
  • Remind guests of gym policies and safety regulations in a courteous manner
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor and Manager to ensure complete gym coverage in the weekly schedule
  • Conduct spa and fitness center tours for guests as needed
  • Stay updated on trends and developments in the health and fitness industry
  • Support the department's operational budget and control costs effectively
  • Maximize revenue through personal training and retail sales, including items from the fitness retail shop and recharge bar
  • Attend daily briefings and all training sessions organized by the Manager or Director
  • Set an example by maintaining personal fitness levels and promoting healthy habits
  • Contribute to colleague wellness initiatives, including talks on fitness topics
  • Maintain strong communication and relationships with team members, fostering team spirit
  • Uphold high levels of hygiene, grooming, and professionalism as per One&Only standards
  • Follow all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and operational policies
  • Address guest complaints professionally, following resort policies for service recovery
  • Ensure fixed assets and facilities are well-maintained, reporting issues promptly
  • Assist in achieving departmental targets, guest satisfaction goals, and budget objectives
  • Build rapport, trust, and credibility with guests through exceptional service
  • Anticipate guest needs, exceed expectations, and provide value through service and offerings
  • Actively seek and respond to guest feedback, encouraging open communication
  • Demonstrate adaptability and openness to suggestions for improvement
  • Actively participate in team efforts, contributing ideas and feedback
  • Continuously develop skills, staying informed about industry advancements
  • Adapt to changes in schedules or additional duties as requested by Management
  • Perform other tasks assigned by management while adhering to resort policies and maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional work environment

 

Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements

  • Proficient in both written and spoken English; fluency in additional languages is highly desirable.
  • Holds a nationally recognized certification accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), such as ACE (American Council on Exercise), NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), AFAA (Athletics and Fitness Association of America), ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association), or Yoga Alliance (preferably 500-hour certification).
  • CPR/AED certification is mandatory.
  • First Aid certification is an advantage.
  • Experienced in leading a wide range of activities, including guided hiking (seasonal), personal training, yoga, mat Pilates, yoga sculpt, HIIT, water aerobics, weightlifting, spinning, dance, and similar fitness disciplines.
  • Previous experience in a 5-star resort, spa, or fitness center is a significant advantage.
  • Possesses at least 4 years of experience as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of exercise physiology, including human anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise programming, basic nutrition, and weight management.
  • Certified in various fitness methodologies, such as resistance, interval, endurance, and continuous training techniques.
  • Knowledgeable about the physiological characteristics and adaptations of cardiorespiratory training (aerobic and anaerobic) during submaximal and maximal exercise.
  • Familiar with guidelines for exercise programs targeting weight control and management.
  • Experienced in conducting assessments to evaluate range of motion and identify postural abnormalities.
  • Strictly adheres to safety protocols and ensures the proper use of exercise equipment.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service and demonstrates outstanding communication skills.
  • Upholds honesty and integrity in performing the role of a personal trainer and fitness professional.
  • Maintains a friendly, outgoing, and energetic personality, even during extended work hours.
  • Displays charisma, a positive attitude, and a dedication to continuous learning and adaptability.
  • Prioritizes maintaining a clean, hygienic, and well-organized environment.
  • Effectively addresses and resolves guest concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Possesses strong administrative and organizational skills for managing fitness operations.
  • Adaptable in customizing personal training programs to cater to a diverse clientele.
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable about health and safety requirements for all training sessions.
  • Regularly inspects and maintains fitness equipment and facilities to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Proficient in monitoring and correcting exercise techniques, using biomechanical principles to improve client performance and safety.
  • Skilled in administrative responsibilities, including document management, computer applications, and database systems such as Microsoft Office.
  • Flexible and available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements

The ideal candidate must be able to perform all physical requirements of the job in a safe manner, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:   

  • Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and bending in an operational environment for extended periods 
  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and pulling 
  • Lifting and carrying of loads weighing up to 50 pounds 
  • Working in outdoor environments, including high altitudes, that may present extreme weather conditions such as snow, ice, rain, heat, wind, etc.
