Job Summary
The Head Sommelier’s daily responsibilities include but aren’t limited to the selling of wine on the restaurant floor, maintaining the standards of the restaurant, assisting the other FOH positions when necessary, and working with the Wine Director to maintain a top-notch beverage program. The Head Sommelier is also responsible for overseeing inventory, product and working with the marketing team on beverage offerings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Functions as the most knowledgeable person wine list offerings/general wine service standards and expectations
• Develop and implement comprehensive training programs focused on wine service and product knowledge, empowering staff to deliver exceptional experiences.
• Adopt a curated distinguished wine program, selecting and sourcing high-quality wines that cater to diverse guest preferences and enhance dining experiences. In partnership with the Director, Food & Beverage, be well versed and knowledgeable of the wine program to celebrate and serve world class bottles
• Collaborate with preferred partners, consultants, and wine specialists to design innovative wine programs that reflect current trends and elevate the resort beverage offerings
• Ensure wine cellars are organized, and regular inventory is taken to maintain cost
• Support outlet staff with floor presence and act as leader on duty in absence of direct front of house leaders
• Uphold and ensure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures
• Collaborate with the culinary team to design wine pairings for seasonal menus and special events
• Manage wine inventory, including purchasing, storage, and cost control
• Host wine tastings, events, and educational sessions to engage guests and staff
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging wine regions, and seasonal offerings
• All other duties as assigned by a member of the leadership team
Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements
• Minimum of 5 years of sommelier experience in a fine dining or luxury hospitality setting.
• Certified Sommelier or advanced certification from a recognized wine institution (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET, CMS).
• Proven expertise in wine pairing, wine list development, and cellar management.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong leadership and team development skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements
The ideal candidate must be able to perform all physical requirements of the job in a safe manner, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and bending in an operational environment for extended periods
- Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and pulling
- Lifting and carrying of loads weighing up to 50 pounds
- Working in outdoor environments, including high altitudes, that may present extreme weather conditions such as snow, ice, rain, heat, wind, etc.
