Job Summary

The Houseman is responsible for providing physical support for banquet events, including the setup, breakdown, movement, transportation, and organization of banquet furniture, equipment, and supplies. This position plays an essential role in ensuring that event spaces are prepared accurately, effectively, safely, and according to the required standards before, during, and after each event. This position also supports banquet services and any other Food & Beverage services as needed, particularly when there are no banquet events.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up banquet spaces according to event diagrams, specifications, and timelines
  • Assist with loading and unloading banquet equipment for events at different venues
  • Move, arrange, and position banquet tables, chairs, couches, and other furniture
  • Assist with the set up of bars, buffet stations, service stations, lounge areas, tables, chairs, glassware, silverware, and other event equipment
  • Ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and properly prepared before guests arrive
  • Help clean spaces, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, spot cleaning, and other duties
  • Work closely with relevant departments, such as Stewarding, Housekeeping, and other teams, to ensure smooth event execution
  • Remain available during events to respond promptly to setup changes, replenishment needs, last-minute requests, and other priorities
  • Assist with the dislmantling of event spaces following each event
  • Return furniture, equipment, and supplies to the appropriate storage areas following each event
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory of items used, reporting any missing, damaged, or unusable items to management
  • When banquet events are not in operation, provide operational support to the Food & Beverage and Stewarding teams as appropriate
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Manager, Banquets or other members of management

 

Skills, Experience, & Educational Requirements

  • Previous experience in banquet, event, or restaurant operations, moving functions, or similar physically demanding environments is preferred
  • Previous hospitality exposure within a hotel or resort environment is an advantage
  • Must be able to perform continuous physical work throughout working shifts
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment under time-sensitive deadlines
  • Possesses strong teamwork, collabortation, and communication skills
  • Always reliable, punctual, and responsible
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

The ideal candidate must be able to perform all physical requirements of the job in a safe manner, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:   

  • Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and bending in an operational environment for extended periods
  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and pulling of furniture, equipment, supplies, and other materials
  • Regularly lifting and carrying tables weighing up to 60 pounds and, when required, assisting with heavier items using appropriate procedures
  • Moving furniture accross event spaces, restaurants, storage areas, loading areas, and between venues
  • Working in outdoor environments, including high altitudes, that may present extreme weather conditions such as snow, ice, rain, heat, wind, etc.
