Job Summary 

The Manager, Recreation & Leisure is responsible and accountable for developing, implementing, and coordinating operational and service assurance programs to provide first class recreational experiences and service for One & Only guests during all seasons.  This includes meeting or exceeding established standards for employee satisfaction, guest satisfaction, sales, and financial performance for O&O Activities.  

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Manage a range of recreational offerings for One & Only guests including but not limited to hiking, biking, archery, water sports, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, children’s programming, alpine ski and snowboard rentals, ice skating, and snow tube hill 

  • Develop relationships with third party vendors in the community to provide elevated guest experiences for activities such as but not limited to horseback riding, whitewater rafting, fly fishing, and Yellowstone National Park tours. Manages the day-to-day operation for guided activities, rentals, retail, tuning program and children’s program staff.  

  • Responsible for establishing clear guest communication and handles issues/complaints when needed 

  • Ensures regular ongoing communication with employees throughout the resort to create awareness of sports and leisure offerings 

  • Partner with the Resort Manager to understand and execute individual departmental budgets to revenue targets. Financial forecasting, daily expense management and year-end contribution results are top priorities. 

  • Responsible for establishing innovative ideas and recognizing trends in revenue growth, product development, expense management, as well as guest and colleague safety 

  • Responsible for collaborating with the team to establish and evaluate both business and personal goals for staff and division 

  • Responsible for recruiting, evaluating, hiring, disciplining, and training colleagues in the department 

  • Assist with budget development and ensure implementation, and execution across division 

  • Development, implementation, and execution of safety standards related to all outdoor adventure activities 

  • Assist Resort Manager to obtain and maintain all federal, state, and local permits and reporting for guided activities with FWP, BLM, NPS, DOT, etc. 

  • Design and development of a full year events calendar that incorporates all the amenities related to the One & Only recreational program 

  • Obtain and maintain all necessary certifications related to activities offered 

  • Foster teamwork and set a clear communication channel with the One & Only management team, as well as all departments 

  • Develop and adhere to a set of standards for which the O&O recreation department will operate within 

  • Develop and adhere to a set of policies, SOPs, and procedures for associates and guests related to the One & Only Outdoor program 

  • Develop and maintain a safe and high-quality work environment for all colleagues 

  • Collaborate on shared events and activities between the hotel and Moonlight Basin Club from time to time 

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Resort Manager and/or General Manager 

 

Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements  

  • Working experience in a luxury resort setting, preferably in the Recreation & Leisure environment 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting, accounting, and financial responsibility 

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and other software relevant to experience 

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual ability, personalities, and motivation 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oraldemonstrated ability to build strong relationships 

  • Ability to interact comfortably and seamlessly with an affluent group of guests and members 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to assess equipment, programming, and functionality issues, subsequently develop quick and concise solutions, and ultimately implement a strategy that leads to a positive outcome 

  • Ability to assess and diffuse tense situations 

  • Must demonstrate flexible and efficient time management 

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays 

 

Preferred Skills & Experience 

  • Experience with facilitating luxury small group experiences in an outdoor environment 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or significant experience in recreation management, wildlife biology, ecology, or geography 

  • Strong experience in ski and bike rental fleet procurement and maintenance. Experience with Wintersteiger EasyRent software or similar rental fleet management software.  

  • Advanced understanding of ski equipment, boot fitting, and ski/snowboard maintenance 

  • Basic understanding of mountain biking, Nordic skiing, and fly fishing 

 

Physical Demands 

The job duties related to the Manager, Recreation & Leisure position will require long periods of sitting, standing, walking, running, hiking, use of various tools and equipment, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouching or crawling, talking and hearing. 

  • Ability to lift 75 lbs. repeatedly. 

  • Ability to work and tolerate environments with excessive noise and sounds without hearing protection. 

  • Ability to work in and tolerate environments with uncontrollable conditions. 

  • Ability to work in environments with entirely controlled conditions. 

  • Work indoors or outdoors eight to ten hours a day as required. 

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
