Job Summary

The Personal Trainer is responsible for leading dynamic fitness classes and delivering personalized one-on-one training sessions. This role includes designing safe, effective, and engaging group workouts, as well as creating customized fitness programs tailored to each client’s goals and needs. The trainer must have a strong knowledge of exercise science, proper technique, injury prevention, and overall wellness. They will create an inspiring and inclusive environment that motivates participants to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall fitness. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential for providing clear guidance, constructive feedback, and maintaining a positive, energetic atmosphere. Adaptability to different class formats and individual fitness levels is key to ensuring optimal results for all clients.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Design & Delivery – Create and implement personalized fitness programs tailored to each guest’s goals, monitoring progress and adjusting as needed
  • Active Floor Presence – Maintain a proactive presence in all fitness areas, offering expert guidance, motivation, and assistance
  • Service Promotion – Actively promote personal training sessions, fitness packages, spa services, and retail products
  • Exceptional Guest Experience – Deliver personalized, anticipatory service, ensuring every guest feels valued and supported
  • Instruction & Communication – Adapt coaching style to meet each client’s needs, incorporating education, safety, and motivation into all sessions
  • Safety & Standards – Clearly communicate training principles, ensuring safe exercise practices at all times
  • Facility Care – Maintain cleanliness, organization, and hygiene of all fitness areas and equipment; promptly replenish amenities such as water, fruit, and towels
  • Guest Engagement – Welcome guests at spa reception and provide accurate, engaging information on services, products, and pricing
  • Class Instruction – Lead fitness classes and activities offered by the Spa & Fitness Center
  • Policy Adherence – Politely enforce gym rules and safety guidelines
  • Operational Support – Work with leadership to ensure full coverage of the fitness center; conduct spa and fitness tours as required
  • Industry Awareness – Stay current on trends, innovations, and best practices in health, wellness, and fitness
  • Revenue Generation – Support departmental sales goals through personal training, retail sales, and recharge bar offerings
  • Training & Development – Attend daily briefings, required trainings, and maintain personal fitness to set a positive example
  • Colleague Wellness – Contribute to internal wellness initiatives, including educational talks and demonstrations
  • Team Collaboration – Communicate effectively with colleagues, fostering a positive and supportive team environment
  • Professional Standards – Uphold One&Only standards of grooming, hygiene, and service etiquette
  • Safety Compliance – Follow all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and operational policies
  • Service Recovery – Address guest concerns professionally, following established service recovery guidelines
  • Asset Care – Monitor the condition of facilities and equipment, promptly reporting maintenance needs
  • Goal Alignment – Contribute to achieving departmental KPIs, budget targets, and guest satisfaction scores
  • Guest Relationship Building – Establish rapport, trust, and loyalty through authentic and consistent service
  • Anticipatory Service – Identify and exceed guest needs with thoughtful recommendations and actions
  • Feedback Engagement – Actively seek guest feedback and respond constructively
  • Flexibility – Adapt to schedule changes, additional tasks, and evolving guest needs
  • Other Duties – Perform additional responsibilities as assigned, maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional work environment

 

Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements

  • Holds a nationally recognized certification accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), such as ACE (American Council on Exercise), NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), AFAA (Athletics and Fitness Association of America), ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association), or Yoga Alliance (preferably 500-hour certification)
  • CPR/AED certification is mandatory
  • First Aid certification is an advantage
  • Previous experience in a 5-star resort, spa, or fitness center is a significant advantage
  • Possesses at least 4 years of experience as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of exercise physiology, including human anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise programming, basic nutrition, and weight management
  • Familiar with guidelines for exercise programs targeting weight control and management
  • Experienced in conducting assessments to evaluate range of motion and identify postural abnormalities
  • Strictly adheres to safety protocols and ensures the proper use of exercise equipment
  • Delivers exceptional customer service and demonstrates outstanding communication skills
  • Upholds honesty and integrity in performing the role of a personal trainer and fitness professional
  • Maintains a friendly, outgoing, and energetic personality, even during extended work hours
  • Prioritizes maintaining a clean, hygienic, and well-organized environment
  • Effectively addresses and resolves guest concerns with professionalism and empathy
  • Possesses strong administrative and organizational skills for managing fitness operations
  • Adaptable in customizing personal training programs to cater to a diverse clientele
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable about health and safety requirements for all training sessions
  • Regularly inspects and maintains fitness equipment and facilities to ensure safety and functionality
  • Flexible and available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements

The ideal candidate must be able to perform all physical requirements of the job in a safe manner, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:   

  • Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and bending in an operational environment for extended periods 
  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and pulling 
  • Lifting and carrying of loads weighing up to 50 pounds 
  • Remaining in a stationary position for long periods 
  • Constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery 
  • Working in outdoor environments, including high altitudes, that may present extreme weather conditions such as snow, ice, rain, heat, wind, etc.
