About The Role

 

Assistant Manager, Education is responsible for overseeing the successful operations and management of the Lost Chambers Aquarium Marine Educator team to deliver conservation education programming to guests using effective communication and delivery methods. The person in this role will ensure frequent and consistent training for self and other team members in order to maintain quality delivery of accurate information in an enthusiastic, educational and fun way. Playing an active role in developing and implementing educational activities and program evaluation in line with the Education Strategy and AZA Standards is a crucial part of the role.

 

Key duties and responsibilities include:

 

  • Interacting with guests and colleagues in an engaging and professional manner, sharing information about marine life and conservation, and ensuring Marine Educators comply to the same
  • Delivering and delegating the educational programs and marine animal activities upon the needs of the operation, with flexibility to meet needs of small and large groups.
  • Monitoring school and group bookings and ensuring team are briefed to deliver the best guest experience
  • Liaising closely with Admissions and Dive teams to update Marine Educators on educational programs and tours
  • Ensuring that Marine Educators maintain and exceed department targets for quality assurance guest satisfaction survey while delivering educational programs
  • Generating reports relating and tracking guest feedback in order to suggest educational programming enhancements and ensure KPI’s are met

 

 

About You

 

We’re looking for candidates with previous experience in developing and delivering educational programs to various audiences. You should have a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, Marine Science, Communication or related field and be able to demonstrate strong public speaking and interpersonal skills. It is mandatory to have previous experience in guest facing educational capacity within a museum, zoo or aquarium. To succeed in this role you should have the ability to naturally capture your audience’s attention and translate scientific data into engaging programs and activities. With at least 2 years in a supervisory role you will comfortably lead a team and formulate expectations, as well as proactively celebrate team’s successes and address performance gaps.
