About the Role

The Assistant Manager, Engineering will be responsible for the administrative duties of the department as well as will oversee and ensure that all repair and maintenance are going smoothly by the Hotel procedures and standards.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

 

Administration goals

  • To be responsible for the organization of all engineering administration, stock control and spare part storage.
  • To oversee all policies, procedures, protocols and controls that govern the property maintenance operations.
  • To ensure that all actions are recorded and to enable continual improvement and minimize repeat tasks and additional costs.
  • To oversee preparation of reports, such as statistical and data analysis reports, for all engineering processes.
  • To establish a monthly report of works carried out, machines maintained, special events, consumption of energy and water, etc. to the relevant stakeholders.
  • To establish all necessary facility inspection checklists and technical checklists for the whole property.
  • To control and endorse all invoices for installations, tools, spare parts and consumption of materials. 

Repair & Maintenance

  • To ensure all manuals, catalogues, wiring diagrams, guarantee certificates and as-built drawings are requested and maintained accordingly.
  • To ensure that a yearly preventative maintenance program is in place.
  • To take responsibility for all work executed, by own or external craftsmen, on the building, plants or technical installations.
  • To provide continuous technical support to all colleagues.
  • To assist senior management with the planning for investment, project and replacement budget on a yearly basis.
  • To implement all necessary work procedures for preventative maintenance and to initiate respective scheduled procedures. 
  • To monitor carrying out-of-work as well as to record the results within appropriate filing system; To provide the sufficient and reasonable supply of spare parts on time.
  • To determine the priorities for repair work and to take care of them for the quick removing of all breakdowns.
  • To ensure that all works are being executed by the Hotel Standards; to pass invoices for payment only when the execution of the work is done as preliminarily agreed and to the full satisfaction. In case of disputes, to involve the relevant stakeholders for a decision.
  • To carry out regular public areas, accommodation and venue tours to identify areas with defects and places requiring repair and maintenance; to ensure that immediate action is taken for remedy.
  • To be responsible for the storing of spare parts; to set up an Engineering Store; to register all incoming and outgoing items.

Health & Safety

  • To ensure that all fire certificates is up to date and renewed. 
  • To always ensure a safe and healthy environment for all guests and employees.
  • To always keep the hotel and its contents in excellent condition by setting up a planned preventative maintenance plan and by ensuring its full implementation.
  • To comply with all Health & Safety Legislation for the tasks in hand.
  • To manage all aspects of life systems equipment.
  • To maintain highest standards for the maintenance and safe operation of the issued tools and equipment.
  • To work in conjunction with the Health and Safety Officer in ensuring that all safety, health and environmental issues are addressed timorously.
  • To manage and maintain requirements and to keep systems in top operating condition.
  • To co-ordinate and management of all property maintenance and to upgrade requirements as is needed.
  • To manage and to ensure that all maintenance colleagues utilize physical barriers or otherwise guard all hazardous conditions caused during the progress of a job until normal conditions are restored. To replace permanent guards or other safety devices that have been removed from the equipment, before leaving the job.
  • To always maintain good housekeeping during progress of work by all maintenance colleagues.  At the completion of the job, all surplus material shall be removed and the area worked in shall be returned to a normal, clean and safe state.

Employee Relations

  • To foster and to develop effective employee relations within the Engineering department and with all colleagues throughout the Hotel.
  • To be actively involved in assessing training needs and to develop departmental training plans and succession plans. To initiate, execute and/or monitor training of his/her colleagues for engineering matters.
  • To assist and to co-ordinate proper Fire & Safety training for all colleagues together with the Security Manager/Health & Safety Officer.

Customer Service

  • To strive to keep all business units and related entities in the best condition for customer service, ensuring that preventive maintenance is taking place and to recommend projects for improvement to the General Manager and to the relevant stakeholders.
  • To immediately resolve guest concerns, as well as the underlying causes to increase guest satisfaction.
  • To assure consistent, high-quality fabrics, furnishes and equipment which satisfy customer expectations for comfort and functionality.

 

About You

The desired qualification for this role is at least a BSc in Mechanical Engineering. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in the same role in an international ultra-luxury resort and must be fluent in written and spoken English and French.
