Job Summary
The Director, Commercial Sales works closely with the General Manager to determine and implement commercial sales strategies that position the resort to maximize hotel revenues. The Director, Commercial Sales should collaborate closely with revenue management and marketing functions to develop strategies that optimize REVPAR and grow market share. This position is responsible for providing strategic direction in areas of account management, business generation, and market prospecting for the resort’s commercial sales team. The Director, Commercial Sales leads the team to achieve assigned revenue and room night goals and is responsible for developing and maintaining key accounts in the market. This role will also develop and manage all stakeholder relationships, both internal and external.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the resort’s commercial sales strategic plans to achieve/exceed targets.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key clients, partnering with them to understand their business objectives and needs.
- Develop and manage the departmental budget and monitor sales activities/performance to ensure actual sales meet or exceed established revenue plans, accurately reporting variances and projections.
- Manage and monitor all aspects of the Reservations team, outputs and development of colleagues.
- Monitor production of all top accounts, evaluate market trends, and hold the sales team accountable for those accounts within their respective territories.
- Direct the activities of the commercial sales team, providing leadership and motivation necessary to implement effective sales and marketing strategies and maximize hotel sales/revenues.
- Operate the Commercial Sales Department within the established expense budget.
- Assist in the preparation of required reports in a timely manner.
- Coordinate the preparation of the annual Sales Plan.
- Recruit, hire, train, and provide career development for all sales and reservations personnel; conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to employees using company hiring standards and guidelines. Maintain and promote a teamwork environment with effective and clear communication among co-workers.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge about the competitive set’s products, market intelligence, and pricing.
- Manage relationships and partnerships with sales accounts, including setting targets.
- Collaborate closely with Global Sales.
- Plan, organize, and host client events, familiarization trips, trade and consumer shows, and internal client/hotel sales activities. Plan and conduct creative site inspections.
- Create an outstanding brand image in every interaction with clients.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
