About the Role

The Engineering Manager is responsible for planning, delegating and follow-up of work, for ensuring all maintenance requests are completed by in-house or outside contractor as assigned within the time and budget established. He is responsible for the smooth operation of the department and provides feedback and reports for budgeting, staffing, repairs and maintenance and projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To make sure that he understands and abide to the policies and procedures of the Maintenance Department as laid down in the engineering manual and to make sure that the staff carefully understand them and abides by them.
  • To make sure that he understands and abide to the company policies.
  • To make himself familiar with the buildings and areas, and studies all pieces of equipment and installation, pipe and cable routing, valves and control panels, ducting and dampers. Must be familiar with all manuals and instructional literature of all pieces of equipment.
  • To manage all staff falling directly under him for the smooth running and maintenance of the building and equipment.
  • To continuously give feedback to the Maintenance Manager on the general running of the Maintenance Department and all matters relating to staff.
  • Must ensure good and effective communication and feedback between Maintenance staffs.
  • To continuously communicate with all the hotel departments for all matters pertaining to maintenance.
  • To receive maintenance requests, register them in a logbook and co-ordinate the distribution.
  • To compute maintenance requests and work requisitions according to the established procedure.
  • To manage and control the working hours and the discipline in the department. Coordinate with the supervisors of the works according to the schedules established.
  • Must make sure that at all times machinery spare parts (according to preventive maintenance programs and reactive maintenance) and consumable items are available in the stores by liaising with the storekeeper.
  • Must ensure that parts and items purchased are strictly controlled so as to keep wastage to zero.
  • To maintain a clear and clean workplace.
  • To ensure that machinery is kept in good operating conditions and all preventive maintenance is carried out as per planning.
  • To ensure that a full inventory of tools is carried out and maintained.
  • To organize and control with the Maintenance Manager all preventive Maintenance Schemes, all new works, the follow up of Maintenance requests, follow up of outside contractors’ intervention, the fire security, ISO, Health and Safety, hygiene standards, cyclone committee and risk control report.
  • To tabulate and analyze on a daily basis all energy readings and consumption as received from Day/Night Maintenance sheet.
  • Ensure that proper and reliable meter readings are obtained daily and any discrepancies are noted.
  • To prepare and compute at the end of each month the Engineering Monthly Report for the finalization by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Makes sure within his scope that the energy consumption is always kept to a bare minimum.
  • Is responsible for the proper storage of all architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, civil and landscape drawings as well as technical documentation and literature.
  • To maintain the daily and monthly attendance sheet records.
  • To ensure that staff is working in accordance to safety principles and using protective equipment wherever applicable.
  • To attend weekend and public holiday duties as per roster and may be requested to work overnight according to the demands of the operation.
  • To attend all morning briefings and wrap up sessions in the evening.
  • To carry out daily inspection rounds.
  • Is expected to make himself available at any time to carry out any job outside the scope of his daily work according to the needs of the operations or intervene personally on repair and maintenance work.
  • Must ensure that hotel assets are protected while performing duty.
  • To represent or replace the Maintenance Manager, when the Manager is not on the property or not available towards all management and heads of department, the outside contractors and local authorities.
  • Must report to his unit as soon as a cyclone warning class 2 is declared and start organizing all prevention measures and also make sure that all his staff is operating under safety measures.
  • May not make policy or procedural changes without prior approval of the Human Resources Director.
  • May not make statements to the press.
  • May not make changes to or in any way concerning standard operation procedures without authority of the Human Resources Director.
  • May not authorize salary and wages adjustments.

 

About You

The ideal candidate should have at least Diploma / Degree in Hospitality Management or Sales & Marketing.The candidate should have at least 2 years of experience in the same role in an International Ultra-Luxury resort and must be fluent in written as well as spoken English and French.
