About the Role
The Varnisher is responsible for preparing, finishing, and maintaining wooden furniture, fixtures, doors, and decorative surfaces throughout the resort. The role ensures that all woodwork is properly treated, polished, varnished, and maintained to uphold the property's luxury appearance and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply varnish, lacquer, stains, and protective coatings to wood surfaces.
- Prepare surfaces through sanding, cleaning, stripping, and repairing defects prior to finishing.
- Restore and refurbish furniture, wooden fixtures, doors, panels, and decorative items.
- Inspect woodwork across guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, and back-of-house facilities to identify maintenance needs.
- Mix and match stains, colors, and finishes to maintain consistency with existing furnishings.
- Ensure all finishing work meets resort quality standards and aesthetic requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures when handling chemicals and finishing products.
- Coordinate with the Engineering and Housekeeping teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to guests.
- Report material requirements and maintenance concerns to the supervisor.
About You
- Knowledge of varnishing, polishing, staining, and wood finishing techniques.
- Ability to use hand tools, sanders, spray equipment, and finishing tools.
- Good attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Ability to identify wood types and appropriate finishing materials.
- Strong problem-solving and maintenance skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of workplace safety procedures and chemical handling.
- Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
- Certificate or vocational training in Carpentry, Wood Finishing, or a related trade is an advantage.
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Varnisher, Carpenter, Painter, or similar maintenance role.
- Previous experience in the hospitality industry or luxury property environment is preferred.
