About The Role
A skilled and experienced Mermaid performer responsible for delivering high-quality Mermaid experiences while taking on additional responsibility for standards, mentoring, show readiness, and daily operational support.The Senior Mermaid acts as a senior role model within the team and supports the Head Mermaid and management in maintaining performance quality, safety awareness, professionalism, guest experience standards, and operational consistency. The role supports the training and development of Mermaid Trainees and Mermaids, assists with daily operational planning and show readiness, contributes ideas and improvements to enhance the program, and helps drive accountability, professionalism, and positive team culture.All duties, assignments, schedules, show participation, dry activities, training blocks, administrative support, and ownership areas are subject to change based on the needs of the business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform as a mermaid in underwater shows, meet-and-greets, and themed events.
- Delivers safe, engaging, polished, and memorable guest experiences in line with Atlantis standards.
- Swim gracefully in a mermaid tail while executing choreographed routines or improvisational movements.
- Participate in rehearsals, costume fittings, and promotional activities.
- Maintain physical fitness and water safety proficiency.
- Follow safety procedures and emergency protocols as instructed by staff or Dive Safety Officer.
- Follows all policies and procedures set in the Atlantis Dubai Dive Operations Manual
- Assist in the care, maintenance, and cleaning of mermaid costumes and equipment.
- Assists with daily operational planning, show preparation, room readiness, tail readiness, prop readiness, and performance standards.
- Supports the consistent delivery of Mermaid shows, dry activations, Dolphin Meet and Greet, Shark Lagoon activations, photo opportunities, and other guest-facing revenue activities as assigned.
- May be assigned ownership areas by the Head Mermaid, including but not limited to makeup, essentials, tail care, costumes, accessories, choreography support, show review, room standards, inventory tracking, or training support.
- Logs and reports all equipment malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
- Maintains dive logs and records of own dives.
- Ensures a complete understanding and adheres to policies of all division / department policies.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment for both people and animals.
- Attend meetings and trainings as requested and required.
- Acts as a senior role model within the Mermaid team, demonstrating professionalism, reliability, strong work ethic, safety awareness, guest focus, and positive team influence.
- Supports the training and development of Mermaid Trainees and Mermaids when assigned.
- Supports the Head Mermaid in maintaining show quality, guest interaction standards, choreography consistency, trident readiness, costume standards, and daily show readiness.
- Maintains a sound knowledge of the Company’s facilities and related services.
- Maintains confidentiality of information always received.
- Performs other reasonable duties throughout the Division as requested by management.
About You
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in Mermaid performance, aquatic performance, guest entertainment, synchronized swimming, freediving, diving, dance, theatre, character performance, or comparable guest-facing experience required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience supporting training, mentoring, show standards, guest-facing program delivery, or operational ownership areas preferred.
- Certified free diver with a recognized free diving certification.
- Recognized Mermaid certification
- Must successfully complete annual departmental swim test
- Must have the ability to hold breath underwater for extended periods.
- Comfortable performing in front of large crowds and engaging with children and adults.
- Ability to swim and perform underwater for extended periods in varying water temperatures.
- Demonstrated ability to perform independently in a Mermaid role while supporting team standards, daily operations, and less experienced performers.
- Endurance for repetitive movements and extended periods in costume.
- Must pass annual dive medical or required fitness assessment.
- Ability to lift or carry costume elements or equipment up to [e.g., 25 lbs].
- Ability to wear and swim in a monofin or mermaid tail for extended periods.
- CPR, First Aid, and lifeguard certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethics.
- Able to receive, apply, and support feedback related to show quality, guest interaction, safety, teamwork, and professional standards.
- Must be able to speak English confidently and clearly when delivering guest-facing programs, shows, meet-and-greets, photo opportunities, dry activations, safety briefings, and colleague communication.
- Must be comfortable performing assigned duties in close proximity to all animals in our collection.
- Demonstrates mature responsible behavior in duties.
